4th Holland Tulip Fileds

Did you know that you can farm a rainbow?? OK Well sort of ...
In Holland, farmers grow mass fields of tulips and from an areal view if looks like rainbows! We took a virtual tour at airpano.com (check it out, lots of places to virtually visit). We also learned about perspective (things far away look small and things close up look large). We created a one point perspective drawing by using a vanishing point. We finished with an analogous color scheme.
ENJOY & CHECK OUT THE VIRTUAL TOUR HERE.

2nd Robots

This was a FUN second grade art project. Students looked at shapes as parts of a robot.  They also learned about "friend" or analogous colors (colors that sit next to each other in the rainbow or color wheel. We finished this project off with a printmaking design to border our robot.

Kinder KAN-DIN-SKY

Kindergarten has learned all about the famous (and Mrs. Garvin's personal favorite) artist, Kandinsky. He was a primarily abstract painter that believed art was like the rhythms and beat of a musical composition. We listened to classical music while we "danced" our paintbrush around the paper. Once dry, we used found objects like cardboard and bottle caps to print to the beat.

We looked at several of Kandinsky's works and talked about how abstract art can look like many different things. One personal may see a person, another a rainbow and another a dinosaur. In abstract art there really is no wrong answer. Our kinders topped this project off with "I see" reflection quotes.
They turned out colorful, Kan-din-sky would be proud!

Taking Charge of our AWESOME!

After our first day abstract painting the art room jumped head first into a lesson on being MORE AWESOME. We were inspired by Kid Presidents pep talk to teachers and students (link below)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwlhUcSGqgs&safe=active

Each of my classes created self portraits (a portrait of yourself) and wrote a bit about what makes them awesome. We also dressed up on suit coats and ties to share out advise on how to BE MORE AWESOME.

I must say this is a fun! Please enjoy the video :)
Lots of colorful art project coming soon!

A Great First Week!

Welcome back cookies from Allison, YUMMY!!!!
This year we skipped the typical rules and went straight for PAINTING! Everyone including me enjoyed this.

We painted abstracts from a same set of directions, then we did an art room mingle to explore, share, compare and get acquainted with one another.
Every 1st-4th student finished and hung their painting in their grade level gallery space.
Be sure to check them out at OPEN HOUSE :)
