Abstract line paintings
Kinder artist had a great time examining lines and trying to find Larry the imaginary snake, who likes to hide in lines around the school :)
Legends
First grade artists painted sunsets just as Little Gopher did in The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. Students learned how legends start as a true story but throughout time may get exaggerated. Students also read the Legend of the Blue Bonnet and created a class bar graph of things that we like and things that we love based on their sentimental value.
Cave art, Pictographs
2nd grade artist studied the effects of real and simulated texture in art. They aged and texturized paper to give a cave feel and then painted symbols to create a fictional Native American story.
Totem poles!
Our third grade artist learned about the honor and symbolism behind a totem pole. They also learned why artifacts are important to study history. They have created some awesome totem characters!
Tribal shields

Mono Leaf Prints
Our Kinder artists created these beautiful print. Students placed large stems from a tree on our playground onto a large piece of paper. Then students chose 2 colors of red, orange, yellow, and brown. The fist color was sprayed on and around the center of the leaf and the second color was sprayed around the outside edges of the leaf. The two colors overlapped to create a splatter effect. In printmaking a mono print is the relief of what is placed onto the paper, this process left us with a white outline of our nature print.
Tissue Paper Trees
These fall trees were created by our 1st grade artists. They applied modgepodge to torn tissue paper to represent the leaves and used black crayon to draw the trunk and limbs of the tree. In this lesson students discussed color theory in the natural world and why colors can change.

Printed Fall Trees
These fall trees were created by our Kinder artists. For this project we did not use any paintbrushed! Instead we used the edge of cardboard pieces to print lines for our tree trunk and branches. Next we used a Q-Tip to create dot prints of red, yellow, orange, and brown to represent fall leaves.

Fall Leaf Watercolor Print
This project showcases the beauty of the leaves in fall. In class student pretend to be a bug on a leaf as we explore the lines and shapes that nature creates. Students then explore outside to find a variety of leaves to use in thier artwork. Students then use the backside of thier leaves under thier papers and the side of a wax crayon to create a rubbing or print of thier leaves. Students them outline the leaf with a marker and them use watercolors to blend around the leaves and fill in the background. To culminate this project students write a haiku about the experiece of being a leaf falling from a tree.
