Tech Update!

This Monday was our first full day of MOBILE MONDAY!. In an earlier post I told you about our new lab, now we are diving right into use of them in the art class!. We are starting with keyboarding skills, it is hard to watch students search for 5 minutes to find a letter so in 2nd - 5th grade we are learning about the homerow keys and the proper use of a QWERTY keyboard.

Complex Forms in +/- space

These turned out great! These complex forms were created by our 3rd grade artists. Form in an Art Term for shape!

ARTfully Delicious!

Second grade first project of the year explore knowledge in the content area of COLOR. Developing on last years skills, students used white and black paint to create TINTS AND SHADES of a color. Tints are lighter and shades are darker. They cut and sorted these new colors into a yummy ice cream cone.

After the art project was finished these second grade students participated in their first art critique. This is a time to use ART SMART words to talk about their own art work as well as their peers. Below are a list of ART SMART VOCABULARY words we like to use!

Teaching Technology

Ridgedale is the proud owner of a new mobile lab!!! There are 26 portable laptops. This is our first day of doing teachnology integration in art class. It went very well. For our first projects we went over the rules of proper use and we tried out the virtual sketchbook at ODOSKETCH.

THE DOT!!

Check out our international dot day projects. The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds is one of my favorite children's books, especially for ART. If you have never read the story below is an awesome digital animated video of the story.

Everyone is an artist all it takes is a bit of creativity!

4th Grade Colors Wheels

4th Grade created 8 section color wheels. They cut them into radial designs and then topped them off with black line design patterns onto each section. The look gorgeous!

Starting a Colorful Year!

Bulletin Board Display celebrating color and our spectrum of artists!!
For our opening classes each students did an art mini with a self portrait using only a single color. They varied the shades of that color my mixing mediums with marker, crayon and colored pencil. Students in the 4th and 5th grade were aloud to use analogous or friend colors to smooth the transitions of rainbow prism colors. I love watching the students in the hallway trying to find their portrait.
