I can't believe it...
It's time to build our art portfolios! I love getting out a whole years worth of art, looking back listening to the kiddos talk about their favorite projects and get excited about showing off all of their hard work and creativity at the night of the arts.
5th grade OKeefe art
These turned out stunning! So vivid to look at. Students also completed art sandwich critiques, which allows them to learn and understand art by creating positive critiques.
Our adventures in 3d printing UPDATE
I love the fact that we keep our newest (most expensive) piece of technology right next to our oldest (least expensive) CD player, circa 1998. lol
Our first printed piece was this tea cup. It took almost 4 hours to print and it leaks from the bottom! However it was AMAZING to watch and while it is printing it sounds like jet planes taking off :)
Next we started printing smaller pieces. These are dog tags that were custom designed by individual students in 5th grade using the cube create program online. As you can see we had lots of errors before we got it right. The errors are almost as important as the correct piece because students rework their design, change settings on the printer and really become engineers!
Here is finished designed dog tag. The software allows student to pick shapes and designs and words to customize the tags, we also have created rings and key chains. Next year we hope to implement a 3D store to sell the small items. The money collected by the students will be used to buy more spool or thread for printing. These smaller items can print in about 20-30 minutes.
Our latest endeavor is to print 3D universal connector pieces that will allow students to connect building toys such as Legos, Linkin Logs, K'nex, and Duplos. This is where we hit our first big snag...
As you can see when you look close the piece didn't "meld" together. The threads of material are wiry and not solid. We brought in Mr. Baker (actual engineer) who has a personal 3D printer. Upon inspection we all came to conclusion that our printing pad is not level and therefore causing things to print inconsistently.
Thankfully after contacting Cubify, even though our warranty is expired, a new printing pad is in the mail. We REALLY hope this solves our printing problem (fingers crossed). One of the coolest things I have found from the 3D printer is that Mr. Baker offered to print a new part for the printer pad from his home printer to fix ours. Now how about that for ingenuity!
We will update once the new print pad has arrived. TO BE CONTINUED...

Mobile Monday Art Critique from Today :)
This picture is a very colorful picture. It has bright neon colors like neon green. It is very detailed I can actually see a very faint drawing of another type of bird like a peacock. I think the bird on the left hand side is about to chase something away from maybe the bird's nest. I think that the other toucan is looking out after hr eggs. Or, they could both be getting ready to eat some leaves. I love that who ever drew this picture did it with water colors and that he used rainbow colors. What I would do to the picture is, I would take away some leaves at the top and add some more blue. I loved working with this picture. Did you?
I think this art is extremely colorful and very elegant. It has two birds, one is sitting and one standing. I think the birds are placed very nicely. I think the artist could have used more colors on the birds. I think that they are in the jungle and it's not so peaceful. I think the birds are keeping a look out, so if wild animals try to climb the tree they'll be ready. The artist did a marvelous job on the background! This painting is very beautiful and it is painted very nicely. I think this painting is beautiful!
I like it because it looks like it has a rainbow behind it. It looks like it was painted with water colors. It looks like the one is getting ready to fly away and the other is just sitting there enjoying the sunlight. The most thing I like about this picture there is like a rainbow behind the tree and the birds. If I where painting it i would make both of the birds flying behind a colorful rainbow with a pine tree behind them. It looks like the birds are just sitting on a floating branch if I where paint it or drawing it I would make a great big tree with them on one of the branches. The other thing if I painted a tree I would make something falling off of the tree like a pine
