2nd Robots

This was a FUN second grade art project. Students looked at shapes as parts of a robot.  They also learned about "friend" or analogous colors (colors that sit next to each other in the rainbow or color wheel. We finished this project off with a printmaking design to border our robot.

ARTfully Delicious!

Second grade first project of the year explore knowledge in the content area of COLOR. Developing on last years skills, students used white and black paint to create TINTS AND SHADES of a color. Tints are lighter and shades are darker. They cut and sorted these new colors into a yummy ice cream cone.

After the art project was finished these second grade students participated in their first art critique. This is a time to use ART SMART words to talk about their own art work as well as their peers. Below are a list of ART SMART VOCABULARY words we like to use!

This is an idea I had last year. I always start the year with a color theory review, every year it gets more complex. My hope is by the time they leave for middle school they get aquainted with the wheel and all the terminology that goes with it. So I created some visual aids that have become a permanet part of our classroom much like the word tree. I created people, each with a personality of a term from the color wheel. First, we meet Roy G. Biv, then Primary Pete, Secondary Sally, Warm Willy (that one always gets some laughs), Cool Carly, and Neutral Ned. Each personality has a dialoge box that expains him or her self. It is great for kindergarten and we refer to it during class in all levels.
