4th Holland Tulip Fileds

Did you know that you can farm a rainbow?? OK Well sort of ...
In Holland, farmers grow mass fields of tulips and from an areal view if looks like rainbows! We took a virtual tour at airpano.com (check it out, lots of places to virtually visit). We also learned about perspective (things far away look small and things close up look large). We created a one point perspective drawing by using a vanishing point. We finished with an analogous color scheme.
ENJOY & CHECK OUT THE VIRTUAL TOUR HERE.

Welcome to ART!

This is my welcome to art video :) This was a great introduction to art class, it goes over the basics in a fun way. A major advantage is that I do not have to repeat the "rules" to all 18 of my classes!!

Gustav Klimt

Grade four artist recently studied the artist Gustav Klimt who is know for his symbolic painting entitled "The Tree of Life". Students used metallic paint to use a loose free hand painting style to create the symbolic swirls of the tree branches. They also used black and white to contour and highlight the tree. They embellished the tree with gems, jewels, and beads and added a mosaic paper border.

Northern Lights

These northern lights inspired landscapes were created by our grade 4 artists. This project was created in two parts with lots of different mediums. The background is a marker and watercolor blend with sparkles in the moon. The tree trunks were created by  scraping plastic cards over white paper to get a great birch tree result. Fabulous!

3D Geometric Forms

In this 4th grade projects we learned what makes something 3 Dimensional. Our 4th graders should be able to tell you from this lesson some key aspects of both art and math, such as...

A shape is 2D, like a circle or square.
A form is 3D like a sphere, cube or rectangular prism.
A 3D form has length, width and most importantly depth.

After learning the technicalities of each form students created balanced compositions and added charcoal shading for give the appearance of depth!

ELMO

Elmo is not just a cute fuzzy red character on Sesame Street! An ELMO is a brand of document camera and has quickly become one of my favorite feature to accompany our SMART board in the art room!! The document camera projects what ever is below it onto the interactive white board. It is great for the teacher to show a drawing or painting demo so that each students can see it close up. On this occasion 4th graders were studying 3-D forms and composition's. We used Elmo to display a student created composition so that all could sketch the same thing. We also used the interactive whiteboard to outline and emphasize the placement of the forms. In the second day of this lesson we used the Elmo for a charcoal shading demo. The finished projects will be posted soon!
